Research Interests
I am a microbiologist and microbial ecologist interested in understanding sediments and soils at the scale and "from the perspective" of the microbes who inhabit them. I develop and use microscopic and spectroscopic approaches to illuminate the lives of sediment microbes within their habitats. I am also keenly interested in the intersection of the biological sciences with philosophy and politics, and write and publish within philosophy of biology, science studies, and the environmental humanities.
