Research Interests
I'm a protein biochemist with a particular interest in membrane proteins and respiratory enzymes, which have implications for microbial bioenergetics. I use bioinformatics to study the evolution of these enzymes and their role in microbial physiology using genomics, molecular biology, biochemical assays, spectroscopy, and microscopy. In the Orphan lab, I'm attempting to connect knowledge of these molecular mechanisms with microbial ecology, especially in the context of the syntrophic partnerships involved in anaerobic oxidation of methane.
